changes, transitions, detours and diversions

Spiritual resource to share: songs

I have been thinking and working with this hymn all week and wanted to share it with you. I have known this song for years -- even decades!

And I have sung it through all sorts of changes and transitions in my life: going off to college, getting lost in a foreign country, having a baby, having another baby, starting out on my own in a new city, healing disappointment and discouragement....

All in all, it's a wonderful healing poem and song. Enjoy!

In heavenly Love abiding, no change my heart shall fear;
And safe is such confiding, for nothing changes here.

The storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid;
But God is round about me, and can I be dismayed?

Wherever He may guide me, no want shall turn me back;
My Shepherd is beside me, and nothing can I lack.

His wisdom ever waketh, His sight is never dim;
He knows the way He taketh, and I will walk with Him.

Green pastures are before me, which yet I have not seen;
Bright skies will soon be o'er me, where darkest clouds have been.

My hope I cannot measure, my path in life is free;
My Father has my treasure, and He will walk with me.

Kim,
This is my favorite Hymm of all time. I think it is so beautifully written, and yes, you are right, very helpful in times of change and uncertainty!

When raising 4 childen I sang many hymns to them when putting them to sleep and/or comforting them. Besides Mrs. Eddy's hymns this was my favorite. It would comfort them and me! It acknowledges our human situation but lifts one's thought to the promises of spiritual reality. Thanks for the reminder.
